DIPPING

  • it is the simplest method of deposition
  • How is it done: a substrate is immersed in a solution containing the coating material and withdrawn
  • Disadvantages:
    • Bad uniformity (it can be seen in the animation how the thickness varies due to gravitation force)
    • the layers may have poor quality, pinholes; the dipping is repeated in this case
  • Film thickness: is dependent on the viscosity of the paint
  • Applications:
    • for metals with low melting point
    • biosensors
